Elvia Crump said May 29, 2017 is a memory "etched" in her mind and a day that she will never forget. It was on this day, according to a Spectrum News Report, that her daughter Shaniece Harris vanished. Crump was driving to Florida when she received word her daughter went missing from Rock Hill, New York, the report said.

Shaniece reportedly visited a friend and never returned. She has not been seen since. It was during Crump's trip when the task of figuring out how to report a loved one missing became front and center. Reportedly, Crump asked her eldest daughter Tameka Harris to go to the police station to let authorities know, but according to Spectrum News, there was a delay with the reporting. Tameka was allegedly told that they would have to wait 24 hours.

Harris went back to the station that evening, “So 9 p.m., 8 p.m., I ended up at the sheriff's office, and proceeded to do the missing report, and was asked why I didn't report her missing sooner,” she told the station.

Since that day, around 8:20 p.m., Shaniece has not been seen or heard from. Crump reportedly said she had instant concerns, “I was worried and fearful because that's not like her at all. She doesn't even like to sleep at her siblings’ house, let alone never come home.” Only days after Shaniece's disappearance, the same report said Shaniece’s gray four-door 2007 Volkswagen Jetta was abandoned in New York.

In the spring of 2020, the FBI announced they were offering a $10,000 reward for information, according to Record Online. The announcement was with a joint effort with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.

Shaniece was born on February 2, 1986. She stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and when she went missing in 2017, she weighed 260 pounds. Shaniece has brown hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on her right forehand with the word "spark" or "Sparkz" displayed. The FBI said Shaniece previously had ties to and frequented Middletown and Monticello, NY. In some images, Shaniece has worn glasses. She is biracial/Hispanic, her family said.

Crump told Record Online in 2020, “I just want to bring her home. If, God forbid, she’s passed, I want to do what a parent would do, and put her to rest.” She added, “Answers would change my life. I wouldn’t get up wondering every day, worrying every day, wondering if I’m going to go the rest of my life and not know."

There is a dedicated Facebook page dedicated to finding Shaniece and providing updates on this case.
