Laura Howard

Laura Howard

In April 2013, Laura Howard was living a new life in Florida. Laura, the mother of three adult children, had a new home in Fort Myers and was making new friends in her neighborhood. According to her family Laura enjoyed the sunshine and palm trees and was looking forward to meeting new people after having made the move only three years before.

Despite this new chapter she still kept a close relationship with her children. In fact, one of her sons, Greg Howard, was planning a trip to visit her in the South. They were planning activities together, like spending time outdoors, and renting a boat, but at some point, according to her family and authorities, Laura’s communication with her loved ones stopped.

She stopped making and returning calls, her family said, just before Greg’s visit.

Although Greg hadn’t heard from his mother, he still took the flight. When Laura didn’t show at the airport to pick up Greg, everyone knew this was not normal. Greg rented a car and went to her house. Laura was not there.

Investigators were called to the home for a welfare check whereupon they found Laura’s body in the bathtub. She was submerged in water… and covered in towels. According to authorities, Laura was last seen alive on April 15, 2013, and a neighbor reported that the retired Sunday school teacher had last been seen at the local community pool.

Initially it was difficult to figure out just how long Laura had been in the bathtub, or how exactly she died. Authorities believe it's possible that foul play was involved and that someone could have caused her death.

The investigation revealed that Laura was dating a man named Simon Storm, but when investigators went to speak with Storm - he was gone. In fact, they believe Storm allegedly used Laura’s car to drive to a different part of Florida after her death to meet another woman - a female he was staying with. In June 2013, Storm was last seen, according to detectives, jumping out of a window of the woman’s home after he was confronted by the woman’s brother, and he left behind all of his personal effects. The woman’s brother had wanted to see Storm’s identification when he became suspicious.

Among his belongings Storm left at the home was Laura Howard’s identification, passport, and old marriage certificate.

Storm is only a person of interest in Laura’s case. He has not been charged with Laura’s death. It’s possible he’s met other women or families along the way and has possibly been using other names. Investigators said they will fly to any part of the country to track Storm down or to meet with him.

Storm’s aliases are:

  • Simon Croft
  • Simon Storm
  • Alex Defrey
  • Alex Debel
  • Alex Frost.

Khuen stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 170 pounds. One of the oddest traits about Storm is that when he meets a woman, he usually asks them if he could give them a bath. When Storm vanished, he had darker hair and a mustache. He may have more grey now and was going bald in 2013. His date of birth may be April 21, 1969

Storm claimed to be in the United States illegally, and also claimed to be in the Canadian Army. Another claim is that he had been a professor, and had three degrees.
