Police Looking For Young Man Who Allegedly Murdered His Best Friend In North Carolina

On Nov. 28, 2020, investigators were called into work on Thanksgiving weekend for a serious incident in Asheville, North Carolina. Authorities said a Good Samaritan called 911 to report shots fired from Montford baseball field. The caller said she wasn't sure, but she thought there was possibly a body at the location near a park.
When authorities arrived, they said they found a young man lying on the ground. The victim had been shot multiple times.
The victim was identified as a 17-year-old high school student, Teylyn McAlpin. McAlpin was not only an all star football, track, and basketball player in a local school, he had also become a young father to a little girl earlier in the year.
As detectives worked the case, they located video of a newer white SUV leaving the scene. Investigators told In Pursuit with John Walsh they knew the vehicle entered the location of the murder at 8:25 a.m. and was last seen leaving two minutes later. It was just after gunfire rang out when the car was seen speeding away.
The question was: who was driving? A local officer remembered he attempted to stop the same SUV only two hours before the murder.
The vehicle was soon traced to a young man named: Diontae Whitson, who was 19 at the time. Not only was he the driver, but he had a close relationship with the victim. They had grown up together their whole lives.
Detectives said when Whitson sat down for questioning, he wasn't as upset as someone may be after losing a best friend. To make matters worse, at the end of the conversation, he asked for an attorney.
Investigators said after doing more digging on the case and finding more video, they had proof of Whitson's alleged connection to the scene. They were also able to positively tie him to the SUV in question and belive he was driving the vehicle at the time of the murder.
Another 16-year-old teen was also charged with the shooting, WLOS reported.
