In 2012, Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis fell to his death from a building in Los Angeles. The tragedy happened moments after he allegedly beat his landlady, 81-year-old Catherine Davis, to death.

Hollywood Reporter reported Lewis, who was 28 at the time of his death, was under the influence of an illegal substance — PCP or crystal meth — when he attacked the woman he was renting a room from.

Lewis, who also appeared on episodes of The O.C., fought two men after killing the landlady, according to TMZ. He used a 2x4 to attack the men before racing up to the roof of Davis’ home and falling to his death.

In a now deleted post, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter expressed his sadness, though he said he wasn’t surprised.

“It was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way. I wish I could say that I was shocked by the events last night, but I was not. I am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path,” Sutter wrote, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

Lewis, who dated singer Katy Perry for a brief period, had a history of arrests for violent crimes. TMZ‘s reporting showed the actor was arrested in January of 2012 for felony assault with a deadly weapon. He was ordered to rehab to be treated for mental health and/or drugs and alcohol.

TMZ also reported Lewis was arrested on Feb. 10, 2012 for sucker-punching a man outside of a yogurt shop, and again on Feb. 18, 2012 for attempted burglary.

He was sentenced to 303 days in jail for both crimes and was released on Sept. 21, 2012 — just five days prior to his death.
