A popular, musically talented San Francisco man disappeared in Northern California after a fight with his girlfriend. Family and authorities are still attempting to determine exactly where he could be and what happened to him.

In 2019, Davohnte Morgan, then 27, met his girlfriend, a life coach around 20 years his senior, at a concert and they became inseparable.

According to Ruthie Devore, her nephew and the woman loved to explore new places as a couple. On May 4, 2020, she says the pair left San Francisco for Mount Shasta, a town four hours away. Devore notes Morgan was planning to return home to San Francisco the following day so he could attend a nephew’s birthday party.

Morgan’s brother, Anthony Patchell, recalls Morgan’s girlfriend phoned him on the evening of May 5 and said she and Morgan got into an argument and he left and never came back. “I just remember initially thinking it wasn’t real weird,” he says.

Two days later, however, the girlfriend again called Patchell and said Morgan was still missing. Family urged her to make a police report and she finally did on May 7, 2020.

Sgt. Devon Priddy of the Mount Shasta Police Department says the girlfriend “didn’t act upset.” Instead, he notes, she was acting “loony” and was “all over the place” and “did not seem too concerned or sad or upset that he has not been found.”

Morgan’s aunt, Devore, alleges, “When I talked to her, she made sure to give this narrative of like him just walking off into the sunset with a pina colada versus explaining that this was just something he would never do.”

Morgan’s mother, Terri Barnes, claims, “Thinking back now, something happened to him while in her presence.” She adds, “I believe that the girlfriend had something to do with Davohnte going missing.”

Before his disappearance, family says Morgan was going through a tough time emotionally. He was the victim of a shooting after he was wrongly targeted while sitting on his porch. As a result, his loved ones say, he suffered from trauma and depression.

According to police, Morgan was last seen on surveillance video walking in Mount Shasta on May 5, 2020, around 10 a.m.

The Mount Shasta Police Department said in a statement at the time that they initially did not conduct searches of the wilderness and waterways around Mount Shasta because Siskiyou County is roughly the size of Hawaii, or around 4 million acres, the Riverside County News Source reported.

Officials also noted there was no evidence indicating Morgan may have entered any wilderness areas and video showed him walking in safe areas around the hotel where he was staying.

Eventually searchers, including volunteers and especially family, canvassed the area where Morgan was last spotted. The search area later expanded into wooded areas near town. No trace of the missing man has ever been found.

Morgan’s girlfriend has not been charged with any crimes related to his disappearance.

“I believe she knows more than she’s giving,” Sgt. Piddy says. He points out, however, that law enforcement officials “don’t have anything to charge her with, hold her on.”

Loved ones also have wondered at times if Morgan may have fallen victim to foul play at the hands of a local. “I think he could have been targeted because he was an outsider and from the city,” San Francisco, Patchell says of his brother.

If you have any information about Davohnte Morgan’s whereabouts or the case, please contact the Mount Shasta Police Department at (530) 926-7540.
