On August 13, 1996, the lives of three people changed forever when Jeffrey Wolfe was murdered in Mississippi — and his dismembered remains were later found in an alligator-infested swamp.

Jeffrey’s story, and how it affected those closest to him, is documented in the series premiere of Investigation Discovery’s new series Shattered. Each episode unravels a homicide case through three distinct but connected points of view in intimate first-person interviews with those most affected by the crimes that changed their lives forever.

The events surrounding Jeffrey’s murder are told from the perspective of his distraught father Paskiel Wolfe, his then-girlfriend Brook Weber — who was also raped and tortured by Jeffrey’s killers — and Lee Merrill, the homicide detective who struggled to solve a case that would haunt him forever.

My son weighed a hundred and seventy-seven pounds,” Paskiel Wolfe said. “They found a hundred and eighteen pounds of him, because an alligator ate the rest of him.”

Paskiel remembers meeting Jeffrey’s new girlfriend Brook, and hugging and and kissing his son for the last time as the couple headed off on what he believed was just a vacation.

He also reveals his struggles with revenge fantasies and despair following his son’s brutal killing.

Brook Weber, who had been dating Jeffrey for just a couple of weeks when they headed to Mississippi, said that their main purpose of the trip had been to collect a debt from a man named Gary Simmons, who owed Jeffrey money for marijuana.

She describes having a bad feeling as soon as she got to the house — and the horrifying sequence of events that occurred afterward when Simmons trapped her in a metal box and tortured her. “I was told that how well I performed sexually determined if I lived or if I died,” she said. Brook reveals the extent to which a single event in her life affects her to this day.

Detective Lee Merrill was the investigator who responded to the scene, found Jeffrey’s body in the swamp — and found himself hunting down the most sadistic killer of his career.

Slowly, the three stories intertwine — and viewers learn different details of the crime from three different perspectives, including the search for Simmons and the struggle to get justice for Jeffrey.
