Dad Allegedly Killed Wife & 2 Kids Over Suspected Affair While Daughter Watched
Austin Smith, 30, came home from a bar Thursday night and confronted his wife, Dasia Patterson, 29, over accusations that she had cheated on him.
PHOENIX, AZ — A Phoenix man is said to have killed his wife and two children after getting into an argument over an alleged affair, according to police.
Austin Smith, 30, came home from a bar Thursday night and confronted his wife, Dasia Patterson, 29, over accusations that she had cheated on him. She denied the accusations, but Smith allegedly turned a gun on Dasia and killed her before killing two of their daughters, seven-year-old Mayan Smith and five-year-old Nasha Smith, True Crime Daily reports.
He then drove to the apartment of the man he believed she was having an affair with, according to Sergeant Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department. Smith then allegedly fatally shot the man, who has been identified as Ron Freeman, 46.
Authorities say he also injured two other people: a 47-year-old woman, who is reportedly in critical condition, and a 33-year-old man who police say "suffered serious injuries."
When police responded to the scene, they found the bodies of Smith's wife and children inside the family home. They also discovered Smith's three-year-old daughter in the home. She had been hiding under a bed and was not injured, Thompson said.
The suspect told police that he chose not to kill her because she “reminded him of himself,” ABC15 reports, citing court documents.
Smith allegedly told police that he killed his older daughter, who died from blunt-force trauma, because she was crying.
Smith was booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and three counts of aggravated assault.
