Chris Watts is serving multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole for the August 13, 2018, strangulation murders of his pregnant wife Shannan, 34; and their two daughters, Bella, age 4; and Celeste, age 3.

The case captivated and shocked the nation from the initial moment when Watts first claimed his wife and the girls had just suddenly vanished from their home in Frederick, Colorado. From there, a massive missing persons investigation ensued, during which Watts’s story fell apart. Eventually, Watts admitted that his family was dead and that he alone was the killer.

Family Man, Family Murderer: An ID Murder Mystery is a new Investigation Discovery documentary special that examines the intimate details that led up to the triple homicide and delves deep into the mind of the man who was capable of perpetrating such horror.

The program will take viewers through the initial missing persons case to the eventual murder investigation leading up to the arrest and Watts's shocking confession.

It features Frederick Police Department body-cam footage as well as new details of the crime following Watts’s transfixing jailhouse confession.

Interviews with those close to the tragedy and experts who have covered the case extensively round out the intensive documentary research.

Henry Schleiff, Group President of Investigation Discovery, further added, “As the first and only network to produce a deep dive into this tragedy, we understand the responsibility we have to show the truth behind a story that follows the actions of a man unhinged.”
