A fourth-grade teacher in Alabama was found fatally shot over four years ago, and her ex-husband and his brother were recently arrested in connection to her death, authorities said.

On Nov. 27, 2017, Sara Starr, the 38-year-old mother of two sets of twins, was killed in the driveway outside her home in Enterprise, Coffee County.

On Dec. 2, a federal grand jury indicted the victim’s ex-husband, Jason Starr, 45, and his brother, Darrin Starr, 54, with use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire, the FBI said.

In return for killing his wife, the indictment states, Jason Starr allegedly gave his brother a 2016 Triumph motorcycle and money.

Jason and Sara Starr reportedly finalized their divorce about four months before she was murdered. According to court records obtained by Al.com, as part of the divorce settlement, Sara Starr’s husband was ordered days before her death to pay her $1,050 per month in child support as well as another $1,500 in alimony.

Jason Starr was arrested on Dec. 7. He has pleaded not guilty to murder-for-hire and is currently free on his own recognizance pending his trial in June.

A manhunt was launched for the suspect’s brother, Darrin Starr, and he surrendered to authorities on Feb. 5 in Hondo, Texas, AL.com reported.

Sara Starr’s obituary notes her four children “were the loves of her life” and “teaching was always her dream.”

“She excelled in the classroom and was loved by her students,” the obituary reads.
