Authorities in Colorado are renewing their calls for help in finding a Larimer County man who hasn’t been seen since last June.
41-year-old Jance Wesley Varela was last seen in Loveland, a city about 50 miles north of Denver. His family reported him missing in July 2022 when he didn’t call his mother on her 60th birthday. According to USA Today, Varela was struggling with homelessness and opioid addiction following a surgery, but he always called his family to check in. He had also been diagnosed with a brain tumor in May 2022, which led his family to believe he could be suffering from cognitive impairment.
According to a March 28 Facebook post from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, detectives did not launch a full-scale search for him last summer because “there was no indication of foul play or immediate risk at the time his disappearance was reported.” With no new leads in the case and concerns about Varela’s well-being, authorities finally asked the public for help to find the missing man nine months after his disappearance.
Jance’s mother, Linda Varela Adams, has never stopped looking for her son since his disappearance. She runs a Twitter account as well as a Facebook page dedicated to finding him. According to reporting by USA Today, she has even organized vigils and ground searches, all while continuously distributing missing person fliers.
Varela is 6’4 tall, 140 pounds, with gray/brown hair and brown eyes. He may or may not have facial hair, but he does have the Greek letter Pi tattooed on his left hand.
