Oregon Man Arrested For Raping Infant Repeatedly For Months & Filming It
Edd Lahar allegedly began abusing the baby when she was just a few weeks old.
CORVALLIS, OR — An Oregon man has been arrested after allegedly repeatedly raping an infant over a period of several months and capturing the abuse on his cell phone.
Edd Sterling Lahar, 30, has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, and first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, according to the Corvallis Police Department.
Police originally arrested Lahar on suspicion of 99 criminal offenses, but the Benton County District Attorney’s Office is not formally charging him with most of them, including seven counts apiece of incest, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Lahar was arrested on January 31 after authorities received a tip that he had child pornography on his phone. After executing a search warrant at his residence, they found "additional evidence" and uncovered "numerous incidents of sex crimes,” according to Fox News.
Police reportedly found evidence of pornographic images on Lahar's computer that had been deleted. Lahar claimed that the images had been taken by accident, according to The Sun.
Lahar allegedly began abusing the baby when she was just a few weeks old, KEZI reported. Detectives found evidence that the abuse occurred between June and January, Benton County prosecutors alleged.
If convicted, prosecutors say that Lahar could face life in prison for the abuse.
No information was available about the child’s current condition, or about Lahar’s relationship with the child.
He is being held at the Benton County Jail on a $6.7 million bail, according to the Corvallis Gazette-Times. He was also ordered not to have any contact with the baby girl or her mother.
He pleaded not guilty on Friday in Benton County Court.
