LOS ANGELES, CA — A would-be car thief was foiled by the unexpected appearance of a most intimidating member of the local neighborhood watch — a wild coyote. A security camera captured the hilarious encounter, and the video has since gone viral.

In the video, a man is seen attempting to pry open a vehicle on a residential street. Suddenly, a coyote runs toward the man, and the burglar flees in terror. Afterward, the man is shown hiding behind other parked cars, checking to see when the coast is clear so he can properly hightail it out of there.

Cristy Trujillo posted the video to Facebook and wrote, “This thief was in the process of breaking into my stepdad's car and out of nowhere comes a coyote to the rescue! Who’s scared now?”

The thwarted burglar is wearing a tracksuit and carrying a small bag over his shoulder. A mask or a bandanna also appears to be concealing part of his face.
