WASILLA, AK — Track Palin, the eldest son of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, was arraigned Sunday on domestic-violence charges against his father, according to online court records.

Track broke into his parents’ home in Wasilla, Alaska, and beat his father Todd Palin, according to charging documents cited by NBC News. The 28-year-old was charged with felony burglary, assault in the fourth degree, and criminal mischief for causing property damage, according to court records.

The alleged incident occurred on Saturday, according to the court records, when Track showed up at the Palin house and allegedly got into a confrontation with his father over a truck he wanted to take. His father refused to allow him to take the truck, believing that Track was drinking and on pain medication.

Sarah Palin called 911 and later told police her son was “freaking out and was on some type of medication,” according to charging documents obtained by the Anchorage Daily News. Palin has also previously suggested that her son suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after returning from a military deployment in Iraq.

According to court documents, the elder Palin told his son not to come to the house. But, “Track told him he was (going to) come anyway to beat his ass,” the affidavit filed by Wasilla Police Officer Adam LaPointe stated.

When Todd Palin confronted Track at the door with a pistol, his son broke a window, came into the house, and allegedly began beating his father.

When police arrived, they saw Todd Palin with blood running down his face, and Sarah Palin looking “visibly upset,” the documents say. When the officers confronted Track, he called them “peasants” and told them to lay down their weapons, according to the documents.

They eventually put him in handcuffs and arrested him. As of Sunday, he was reportedly being held at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer, Alaska, and a judge has set his bail at $5,000.

The Wasilla Police Department did not respond to a request for comment, and an attorney for Sarah and Todd Palin also declined comment on the case. “Given the nature of actions addressed … by law enforcement and the charges involved, the Palins are unable to comment further,” John Tiemessen said in a statement. “They ask that the family’s privacy is respected during this challenging situation just as others dealing with a struggling family member would also request.”

In January 2016, Track was arrested for allegedly punching his girlfriend and — after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm while intoxicated — he took a plea deal that resulted in other charges being dismissed.

Sarah Palin was governor of Alaska when she was thrust onto the national stage during the 2008 presidential campaign when Senator John McCain selected her as his running mate when he ran for President. She resigned as governor the following year, but has been a familiar face in the media ever since.
