SOUTH SALT LAKE, UT — A Utah woman has been arrested after police say she allegedly gave her a live-in boyfriend a spoonful of drain cleaner so that he would “go into eternal sleep.”
Elle Yoshio Weissman, 43, was arrested after police were called to a Salt Lake City hospital around 8:40 P.M. on Monday for a 50-year-old man who’d swallowed drain cleaner, according to a probable cause statement cited by KSL-TV.
Weissman has been charged with attempted murder and surreptitious administering of a certain substance, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
She allegedly told police she gave her boyfriend a spoonful of Drano when he was partially asleep so he would “go into eternal sleep." “[Weissman] stated that by eternal sleep she meant death,” according to court documents cited by The Tribune.
Soon after drinking the drain cleaner, the victim started suffering excruciating pain, South Salt Lake police officer Gary Keller told the news channel. "Elle said her boyfriend thought she was giving him his medicine," and that she was aware the Drano could kill him.
Police say Weissman then called a rideshare service to take her boyfriend to the hospital.
The man survived, but authorities have not revealed additional details regarding his condition.
Weissman was booked into Salt Lake County Jail. Her bail has reportedly been set at $100,000.
