UPDATE (February 22, 2018):

The 26-year-old stepmother of Lucas Hernandez, the five-year-old boy who was reported missing on Saturday, has been arrested on two counts of child endangerment, according to Wichita police.

Emily Glass was booked into jail on Wednesday afternoon. According to online records, she is currently in custody at the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility.

Police say Lucas was reported missing at around 6:15 P.M. on Saturday. Glass told officers that the boy was last seen at about 3 P.M. Saturday in his bedroom, before she showered and fell asleep.

Officers and dogs have searched his home, neighborhood, and nearby Chisholm Creek Park — but so far have found no sign of Lucas.

Deputy Chief Gavin Seiler said the case is now considered a criminal investigation, but declined to give further details of the child-endangerment charges during a press conference.

The investigation continues.

ORIGINAL STORY (February 20, 2018):

WICHITA, KS — The FBI has joined the search for a five-year-old boy who was reported missing in Wichita, Kansas on February 17.

Police said they received a call at about 6:15 P.M. on Saturday to report that Lucas Hernandez was lost, according to The Wichita Eagle.

Lucas’ 26-year-old stepmother told officers that she last saw the boy at around 3 P.M. Saturday, in his bedroom, before she showered and fell asleep.

Lucas, who has brown hair and eyes, is four feet tall, and weighs approximately 60 pounds, was last seen wearing a gray shirt with a bear on it.

Officers and dogs have searched his home, neighborhood, and nearby Chisholm Creek Park.

Officer Charley Davidson said Sunday that police have found no evidence that suggests Lucas was abducted, which is why no Amber Alert has been issued. “We are going to be there as long as it takes,” Officer Davidson said. “Right now, our concern is to find Lucas.”

Two relatives of the boy told the Wichita Eagle they have had concerns about the boy’s welfare in the past, and a relative reportedly contacted the Kansas Department of Children and Families last spring.

The agency has not yet stated whether or not they have had contact with the family.

If anyone has any information on this case please call 316-383-4661.

The search continues.
