Florida Cops Surprise 80-Year-Old Man With New Bike After His Old One Was Stolen
The officers were concerned about Robert, who is believed to be in his eighties, losing his ability to get around.
CAPE CORAL, FL — An elderly Florida man got a huge surprise when police gave him a new bike after he had his old one, which was his only mode of transportation, stolen.
Cape Coral field training officer Ken Cody and officer trainee Guang Song bought a “brand spankin’ new” bike for a man identified only as Robert, who had reported his bike stolen from a Winn-Dixie supermarket in south Cape Coral.
The officers were concerned about Robert, who is believed to be in his eighties, losing his ability to get around — so they made the purchase at Walmart and delivered it to him at home.
“Is this a new one, here?” Robert, who appears to be shocked, asks the officers.
They encourage him to test it out and helped Robert adjust the seat.
The video has gone viral since the Cape Coral Police Department posted the footage on Facebook. They wrote: "Field Training Officer Ken Cody and Officer Trainee Guang Song took a report of a stolen bicycle from the Winn-Dixie in south Cape Coral. The victim was a male in his 80s and the bicycle was his only mode of transportation."
In order to help ensure that his new ride doesn't get stolen, the officers also gave him new lock and key.
They promised that they would still investigate in order to catch the person who stole his old bike.
“Take it for a ride, Robert!” the officers say.
An observer can be heard saying: “You guys are the greatest in the world. I’m almost crying. God bless you.”
