This year, CrimeFeed is bringing you 12 Days of Christmas Crimes to celebrate the holidays in our unique way. Here’s the sixth!

VANDALIA, OH — One Ohio family got the wrong kind of holiday surprise when they came home and found that a man high on bath salts had broken into their home, made himself comfortable, and started putting up Christmas decorations.

Police said an 11-year-old child came home in November 2011 and discovered 44-year-old Terry Trent sitting on the family couch and watching TV. Tamara Henderson, the child’s mother, was next door when her son called her. “He had said to him, ‘I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I’ll get my things and go,” she told WHIO.

Henderson called 911 and screamed for her neighbors. She said that candles were lit, the television was on, and some Christmas decorations had been put up, including a wreath on the garage door. Seems like he was just trying to find a mellow spot to hang out and soak up the holiday spirit, but unfortunately for him, the Hendersons didn’t want his help getting their home festive for the season.

Police reports indicated that Trent had a pocket knife on him and was most likely abusing bath salts. According to police, Trent has a history of drug charges.

He was charged with burglary and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
